During the school life of children, difficulties and problems appear in several subjects, which in turn are the cause of the formation of negative attitudes and feelings. Perhaps the most important feeling is that of fear of mathematics. The content of the article consists of a bibliographic review of the causes of the feeling of fear about mathematics (mathophobia - mathematic anxiety) of students in particular, as defined by Tobias and Weissbrod (1980). An attempt is made to present and categorize the main causes, as they are mentioned in the modern international literature, based on their common elements. The conclusion of this paper confirms the multifaceted and multidimensional nature of the factors that lead to the appearance and enhancement of stress, fear of mathematics.
